River Information:
The most famous of all Michigan Rivers, the AuSable River is routinely mentioned among the top 10 rivers in the country. Especially for the dry fly angler, The Holy Water section from Burton's Landing to Wakely Bridge provides prolific hatches and fish that are smarter than most community college graduates. We primarily service the prime trout water on the mainstream from Grayling to McKinley and the North and South Branches.
River Report Opening day of Trout Season April 28th. The cool nights of the Spring bring afternoon hatches, appprox. 1-2 p.m. #18 Blue-Winged Olives hatch first, then come the huge #12 Black Stones. Soon the largest of the species that hatch here, the Hendrickson. After a few days of weather in the 50's they'll appear on the North Branch first, because it's shallower and warms up faster. The main stream should see it's fair share as usual. Floating is an option on the South Branch, which is high, but dropping steadily.
River Information:
For those looking for not only trout, but anadromous species like salmon and steelhead, the Platte is a great choice. The better water is from the Hatchery near U.S. 31 down to the village of Honor where the river flows along at a quick pace over a primarily gravel bottom. The proximity to Traverse City and other towns, makes the Platte a popular choice for families looking for other amenities other than the woods and the river.
River Report The Platte reports pretty dismal this week. Once again, things should, improve with the warming air temperatures this week.
River Information:
The Rapid River is a real sleaper! Located just Northwest of Kalkaska, this cold-flowing stream holds great resident populations of brook, brown, and rainbow trout as well as seasonal runs of steelhead and oversized browns from Torch Lake which the river eventually flows. The best feature of the Rapid River is price. Because it is little known, it is still possible to find very resonable prices.

River Information:
We service the Manistee River from the head of Hodenpyle Resevoir to the headwaters in Otsego County. While not quite as famous as it's sister river to the east, The AuSable, the Manistee has gained a well deserved reputation as one of the finest trout streams in the Eastern United States. From cedar lowlands to harwood forests, The Manistee runs through some of the most scenic areas in the state.
River Report Opening Day of Trout Season April 28th! There are good numbers of fish being reported in the Manistee. Lower Manistee anglers are being successful with hex nymphs, eggs, and stones.
River Information:
Birthplace of the Adams dry fly and a passing through point for Earnest Hemingway, The Boardman is a river of substantial history. The lower river near Traverse City becomes choked with Steelhead in the spring and Salmon in the fall. The prime trout water extends from the confluence of the North and South Branches and extends down to Boardman Lake. Values on the Boardman are very high due to the proximity to Traverse City. It's the only truly great choice for the fly angler who's spouse does not want to give up the amenities of a larger city.
River Report Boardman River is closed above Sabin Dam until Saturday April 28th. Some steelhead and resident brown trout in the lower river. Boardman anglers are reporting numbers well ahead of a typical year with more fish in than usual. Some fish up to Sabin. The water is high but within the banks and only a little tanic.
River Information:
Flowing through Northern Antrim County, the Cedar River does not receive much press as a trout stream, which the locals love. This is a terrific brook trout fishery with some larger browns available. It flows very close to Schuss Mountain / Shanty Creek Resort which provide lots of opportunities to golf or ski when not in the stream.
River Report This great little stream will always produce lots of browns and brookies and it usually takes just a general attractor like a Humpy or a Wulff. Small streamers are also good choices. Like many other small streams, more fish will be caught if you fish your way upstream.
River Information:
The Betsie River is primarily known as one of the better Steelhead and Salmon fisheries in the state of Michigan. While the river does support good trout populations in some areas, it's the big anadromous fish that make it a very sought after river. The Betsie also runs through some terrific recreational areas including Lake Michigan Dunes and Crystal Mountain Resort, making it a great choice for those looking for other amenities in addition to great fishing.
River Report There are good numbers of steelhead in the Betsie, although below the dam there are very big numbers of suckers as well. Thankfully the suckers don't get above the dam. Caddis larva, yellow and orange eggs, and stones are all producing there.
